Titanium Grade 5 – Excellent Strength and Versatility for Demanding Applications
Titanium Grade 5 – The Material for High Loads and Longevity
Titanium Grade 5, also known as Ti-6Al-4V, is the most widely used titanium alloy and is known for its high strength and good corrosion resistance. As an alloy of titanium, aluminum and vanadium, it offers excellent mechanical properties, making it a preferred choice for applications involving high loads and extreme conditions. Titanium Grade 5 is particularly suitable for demanding applications in aerospace, automotive and medical technology, where both strength and corrosion resistance are required.
The high strength of Titanium Grade 5 makes it ideal for structural components that must withstand high mechanical loads, such as engine parts or landing gear components. Additionally, Titanium Grade 5 is highly resistant to material fatigue and is very resistant to crack initiation and propagation. It also provides excellent corrosion resistance in many aggressive media and is therefore of great use in the chemical industry and in heat exchangers. The good weldability and machinability of Titanium Grade 5 make it a flexible material suitable for a variety of applications across industries.
Applications include:

Heat Treatment of Titanium Grade 5
Annealing (Soft Annealing): 700 – 840 °C
Stress Relief Annealing: 550 – 700 °C
The heat treatment of Titanium Grade 5 requires a protective gas atmosphere or a vacuum atmosphere due to the high affinity of titanium to absorb oxygen and become brittle.
Welding of Titanium Grade 5
- MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding with pure argon shielding
- Plasma welding
- Laser welding
- Electron beam welding
