Titanium Grade 7 – High Corrosion Resistance and Excellent Weldability
The specialized material for extreme environments
Titanium Grade 7 is a commercially pure titanium with a small addition of palladium, which gives it excellent corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. These properties make Titanium Grade 7 the material of choice for applications that require exceptional resistance to chemicals, particularly in plant and apparatus construction. It offers an outstanding combination of high strength and good machinability, making it ideal for high-load and corrosion-intensive applications.
Due to the palladium alloy, Titanium Grade 7 exhibits exceptional resistance to acids, chlorinated media and seawater. This makes it particularly suitable for use in areas where extreme chemical attacks occur, such as in pipeline systems, heat exchangers or marine technology.
Titanium Grade 7 is known for its excellent weldability and machinability, making it a flexible material for a variety of industrial and technical applications. This alloy is a preferred choice for structural components that are exposed to high corrosion loads but must remain strong and lightweight.
Applications include:
Chemical Composition of Titanium Grade 7
Iron (Fe): 0,30 % max.
Oxygen (O): 0,25 % max.
Nitrogen (N): 0,03 % max.
Carbon (C): 0,08 % max.
Pd: 12-0,25 %
Physical Properties of Titanium Grade 7
Density: 4,51 g/cm³
Specific Heat: 0,52 J/(g·K)
Thermal Conductivity: 20,8 W/(m·K)
Modulus of Elasticity: 105 (KN/mm²)
Electrical Resistivity: 0,47 Ω·mm²/m
Thermal Expansion: 8,9 10⁻⁶/K
Beta-Transus Temperature: 913 °C
Mechanical Properties of Titanium Grade 7
Tensile Strength: 345 MPa min.
Yield Strength: 275-450 MPa
Elongation: 20 % min.
Heat Treatment of Titanium Grade 7
Annealing (Soft Annealing): 600 – 700 °C
Stress Relief Annealing: 450 – 600 °C
The heat treatment of Titanium Grade 7 requires a protective gas atmosphere or a vacuum atmosphere due to the high affinity of titanium to absorb oxygen and become brittle.
Welding of Titanium Grade 7
- MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding with pure argon shielding
- Plasma welding
- Laser welding
- Electron beam welding
